Here is how we made some dutch oven lasagna the other evening. Unfortunately; I had had very little white flour in the pantry and the only thing I had on-hand was whole wheat flour. I have never made whole wheat pasta before; so I figured what the heck; let’s do this.
So I gathered some supplies.
- Flour
- Eggs
- Sauce
- Sausage
- Mozzarella
- Ricotta
- Garlic
- Parmesan
For those that have not seen our pasta making steps; you can see them HERE.
1Make Your Pasta Dough
2Make Sheets Of Pasta
3Get Your Dutch Oven.
4Layer Pasta As A Base
5Add Cooked Ground Beef Or Sausage
6Followed by Ricotta.
7Pasta Sauce.
8Mozzarella.
9Layer More Pasta Sheets.
10Repeat The Process.
11Layer Rest Of Pasta On Top.
12Top With Sauce, Parmesan and Garlic.
13Bake 80-90 Minutes At 400 Degrees.
14It Wasn’t Bad!
We are going to give this a try over a campfire this summer and see how it turns out, this would also work well with a crock-pot.
I will boil the pasta next time beforehand though; I normally just use dry noodles when cooking lasagna traditionally and the whole wheat was just a little chewy yet.
