A good friend of mine just contacted me this week. They are older and just relocated, very doubtful they will ever move again since the moved to be with other family. She wants to build 'green' and energy efficient. She has been looking at all the so called bells and whistles: geothermal, solar, wind, super insulated, triple pane windows, LEED standards, etc. She was talking how it will cost a huge amount for such a home. I turned her on to some simple passive systems that don't require a lot of tech to run/maintain/operate. She really had no idea about 'this kind of stuff' I linked her to KVR, Speed and The Natural Home links. I still think we are very much on the fringe with the way many of 'us' here think about energy/efficiency. Funny thing is that high thermal mass, passive solar and to some extent earth berming have been around since the hay day of Greeks and Romans.

...not familiar with that one...will look it up. My thought is if I can get another person to build on the 'fringe', that's one more for our side. I don't expect these ideas to be mainstream, but a few more on our side would be good.
