I understand the rocket stove..very cool.
I have seen a couple of things where people build a rocket heater in a home, maybe with a warming bench. The couple I have seen on the WWW seem pretty sketchy in terms of materials and safety.
Just started researching this idea of a rocket heater...Seems that masonry lined with fire brick is the way to go.
Anyone now of some good resources out there?
Thanks
I have this book and highly recommend it if you don't have it
you can get the third edition much cheaper directly from cob cottage

another option would be the dragon heater, would be more than a DIY version, but along the same price as a decent woodstove

I like this overview of a DIY
they do a follow up three years later

Okay...sounds good. I have looked around on youtube and there is wide variety of ideas there.
I get the idea, need to learn more about sizing the system and the type/size of chimney.
I have a hard time with the idea of a metal drum for the smoke chamber, I have some heavy aluminum kegs, I would think one of them would work well as part of the set up.
Would be great way to heat the new place. Need to talk to code officer to see what he thinks of that. I am sure I have the skill to build one out of masonry block/stone.
Got some good resources. Thank you.
That was a nice overview of the stove on video. I see so many video's where they are putting one in but very few of more
""this is what we think". The constant tending is something that I could see to be a pain to some. I mean you have to tend a fire quite a bit anyway in the beginning but from what it sounds like and my experience with a outside stovetec rocket stove I can see what they are saying.

I think the guy said they fire it once or twice a day.
The only thing I was thinking about the video was that they used basic metal pipe in the bench then packed in cobb and sand...I just see that rotting out in several years.
I am thinking more like cast in place concrete...over kill is my middle name.
I have done some quick research on local/state building codes on rocket stoves for heating a home, can't find any.
Not sure if a rocket stove would be the way to go for primary heat...I like the cost and DIY aspects though!
