Just see how many of you out there use a wood stove for your only source of heat, and if so how much wood you burn a year, and whats the best Type/brand of wood stove you prefer.

We have a Country Hearth (rebranded US Stove) 2500WS. Rated for ~2500 sqft and it was the largest one we could find at tractor supply. ~$799. We have one lived here one winter and I would guess we went through 4 or 5 cords of wood. Maybe less -- I really don't have a good handle on how to easily measure a cord because mine is always stacked differently.

KVR -- that is a huge selling point on the bermed house concept. So much easier to heat.

Wood storage. That's why we bought it -- it gave us a good space to store some wood. Funny thing is that US Stove hardly made any of these so if you call them up they have no idea what model you are talking about. It is their 2500 stove but on a pedestal so parts are easy to find. It is just a rare model for them.

I don't use my wood stove as my only source, but it is the only heat I have in my bedroom. I have a Vermont castings non catalytic. It does a secondary burn but without the catalytic converter. The amount I burn has everything to do with how hard and long our winter is. I think I burn about two cords. The room is unfinished, a lot of glass, and not very efficient at the moment!

I really like hickory, oak, walnut and cherry.

I thought I had a picture but I can't find it!

I have an OLD Vermont Castings that we use to assist. I am hoping the next place will be fully wood heat.
