Hutchison says a lot of rustling is related to illegal drug use; Kansas and Nebraska investigators said the same.
"Because the price is so high, some of these think: 'If I can get four or five head, I can stay high for a long time,'" he said.
And rustling almost always involves people with an agriculture background.
I think that, decreased demand due to prices and increase in herd levels, when the economy crashed back in 2008 a lot of ranchers slaughtered their herds because they couldn't afford the feed, as those prices have dropped they have started increasing their herd sizes, but it takes 2-3 years to get a steer to slaughter weight
