Went to the farm today. Came around the bend and it looked the Sherriff and my neighbors were forming a posse. Everybody had a gun and no one was smiling. I tooted my horn before I walked over so I didn't surprise anyone. Turns out a pit bull mix from down the street broke into my one neighbors coop and killed or wounded all of his 8 birds. They were putting a bounty on the dogs head. After a bit of talking they went inside and the Sheriff went down to the house of the dog owner. The owner admitted the dog had just come home with blood and feathers on it. The dog catcher came and took the dog to be put down. The owner has to pay for the chickens, the damage to the coop, a special payment for loss off produce (eggs), a fine for not following leash law, and also pay for expense of putting the dog down. I feel bad that the dog wasn't raised better, but I like that this stuff is taken seriously here.

The animal will always pay the price for a bad owner.
When I was growing up we had horses. There were a few times that we caught dogs running them down in the pasture, we always tried to talk to the owner first...and I got to tell ya, that never changed anything even if we had the Sheriff talk to them. The Sheriff always told us and the 'pet' owner that the farmer can use lethal force to protect livestock. Over my years I shot 3 dogs running down or actually killing our animals...hated doing it...never understood (still don't) why people don't take better care of their dog's.

We have a lot of cat's that get dropped off by my farm. A domestic cat goes wild pretty quick. And they clean out the birds and rabbits. Don't want to shoot them...haven't so far...they are a pain in the butt.
I really dislike people that drop off animals in the country...talk about dumping on other's.

There have been problems with this dog and the owner's before.
I am judgmental with this, but when people live in the country/farm land area and they only have an acre or two, they seem to think that it is not a big deal to keep track of their dogs...I know of a lot of cases where the dog just never came home.
The little plots of land for a house that have been sold off over the years seems to be a magnet for idiots wanting the 'country experience...and they put in electric heat...wonder how that works out.
