Have recently heard about a new scam/scheme from backyard breeder-puppy mills.  This is epic btw.

My sister-in-law knows a woman who is "fostering" an Austrailian Labradoodle.  Now you may ask what this fostering involves??  The person who owns the dog gives the dog away after a LENGTHY interview/background check process.  There's also a lengthy  contract that goes along with the fostering.

The foster-owner agrees to:

  • Attend scheduled vet visits to maintain health.
  • When dog is "in season", take the dog to vet regularly to have hormone levels checked.
  • When the appropriate hormone levels are reached, you take the dog to be bred.
  • You repeat this process until the dog in impregnated.
  • Make sure the litter of puppies is being properly cared for by the mother, and intervene as necessary.
  • Out of the 6-8 puppies in the litter, the owner keeps 2-3 (presumably to fostered out) and sells the remainder for $3000 each.
  • The new puppies are spayed/neutered at 6 weeks (presumably to prevent market competition).
  • This process occurs 4 times.
  • The owner says that the puppies, not the foster dog is the priority in this process.

When we heard about this, our minds were boggled by this whole thing.  The woman who's doing the fostering has said it's been one of the biggest mistakes of her life.

I don't understand what the benefit to the foster owner in that scenario would be

Well, looks old caesar is going to be a blue. Mil called and said his nails were changing. Wonder if I can convince the wife to not neuter him and use him as a stud.
