I'm thinking of some goats for a property we are bidding on. I don't wanna eat a goat and I really don't wanna drink goat milk or make cheese. I wouldn't mind a few to raise and sell or possibly breed to sell.

My question is about how much they eat. I have known of people that needed some property cleared and would tie some goats up and they would eat everything they could reach. I don't wanna turn my property into a wasteland. We are thinking of the smaller goats.

any thoughts?

I would LOVE to have a goat or two. Their milk is supposed to be much better for you than cows milk.

I think its best to get them penned up. They can wreak havoc. My buddy had one a few years back and they would tear up all kinds of shit.

doesn't sound like goats are for you man. we had hundreds of them in texas, still do actually but i'm not there. goat milk is much better than cow, the cheese is a bit rich but i'm used to it and all euros will eat it. goat meat in some curry is awesome.

goats eat all day and will climb on anything and everything. they will wreck shit. if you have more than a couple they will destroy your yard. you have to have them fenced in, in a pasture and preferably with a few great pyrenees to watch over them.

I would imagine you would actually need a pretty sturdy fence to keep them in.

and tall. goats will climb on and over the fence, they will climb up into trees, onto cars, anything really. electric fencing is the way to go.
