So we had left the rat in the cage for a couple days, I had set him up on top of the turkey's roosting spot. I figured I would use him as bait to see where the other rats were hiding.
So since we had some snow saturday night, sunday morning I could see little rat tracks in the snow. They were coming from under the gazebo and behind my Dad's cabin, so I to set a trap along the pathway and went about my business.
A couple hours later, I went and checked the trap and it had been sprung. But no rat, all I saw was what looked like a little shin bone and some blood trail
He got away
So I decided to put our captive out of his misery, my wife said to shoot it, I decided to drown it in a bucket of water. So I grabbed my wifes good mop bucket and filled it with water and walked down, paid my last respects and stuck the trap into the bucket.
Our friendly rat, climbed up the trap and just stared at me.
Not to be deterred, I flipped the trap over, this is where I made my big mistake. Have a heart traps have a little bar that holds the trap doors in place. Well when I flipped it over, the bar came up, which I failed to notice.
So when I flipped it over, the door opened and I had one ticked off rat coming flying into my face. He stood for a second staring at me and then started running for the hills. Not to lose my capture, I started chasing after him, trying to stomp and trap it, he knew what was coming and dove into a snow bank trying to get away, I started stomping where I saw him burrowing and after a few hard kicks I lifted my foot to check what the result was and was I shocked when the rat turned around and jumped at me trying to attack me.
I slipped on some snow and ice falling on my rear end, as the rat took one last look at started running of, I quickly got up and jumped on it, finally putting it out of it's misery.
I will check the cameras and see if this was caught on film, if it was, I will upload to youtube and post here, my wife and daughter didn't see this go down, thank god
