Does anyone here process your own animals?
I really like my chickens. If I had more I would be less attached.
If I was hungry I would kill them in a sec, but I'm like most americans and have never experienced hunger. We stick to their eggs and buy chicken from the store.
Do you do it in front of the other chickens? you know, to send a message to stop crapping on the steps.
do you have a special spot to do it?
how long does it take to kill, pluck and separate the chicken?
How messy are we talking?

dude that is what the butcher is for. trade him some fresh chicken for some beef or pork.
as far as buying chicken from the store goes, once you have eaten a healthy chicken that grew up in your yard eating your own veggie and fruit scraps, worms and bugs etc, you would never want to eat the store bought crap again. fawk that. it's a night and day difference in quality and taste.
if you haven't ever killed a chicken before, it's not something you'll want small kids around, i don't care how humanely you think you are doing it. it's a mess man. i remember once when we had over 2k chickens, my little bro asked if he could kill one (we were using a machete to cut the heads off) so i held the chickens legs from underneath, forcing its neck down onto the log and i told him, "don't hesitate, if you are going to do it, do it right the first time"
little bastard gave a half assed swing with the machete and ended up cutting off only the lower half of his beak and i had to let go because my bro was trippin' and with a machete in his hands so of course the chicken flips out and is running around the yard squirting blood everywhere before i could catch him and finish it.
basically, on slaughter days we would make a good fire to boil two huge drums of water. the chickens would get chopped and then dunked into the boiling water for a bit, pulled out and plucked, gutted, bagged and on ice all within a couple of hours.
i don't want to do that anymore and i don't want my little kids seeing it either, so trading some chickens to a butcher is the way to go.

I broke their necks first. That seems to work just fine.
ya we tried nearly everything, neck breaking, electric shock, machete. i don't care for any of them, certainly not doing them myself. whatever way you choose has got to be quick and efficient. trade is my all time favorite method.

Do chickens die right away?
what about a shotgun?...lol.. people use them on ducks!
chickens are like frickin cockroaches man, cut off its head and let go of the legs and it will run around your yard headless squirting blood on everything.
