last weekend i spent a half day putting up 400 ft of goat fence. My friend dropped off a boer goat today he was getting rid of (it kept jumping up onto his truck)... well that sob jumped my fence and took off within 3 minutes of me putting him in the pen....Luckily it stopped to destroy my lilac hedge so i could catch it.
I just contacted someone on cl trying to sell a boer...
Hopefully a friend will make him happy?
thoughts?
i intend to bring him to butcher in a month or so... (recommendations on what to fatten him up with?)
my buddy is splitting with me... just wants it away from his girls for a minute before he puts it in his freezer..

so... It didnt make a damn of difference. That goat could care less about the friends I got him. The two new goats could care less about me.
The original goat is still getting out. I turned the top wire up. He gives zero shits. I was covering the gate that he was squeezing through with wire and he was kissing my cheek....
when he gets out he doesnt run away luckily. He just jumps my interior fence and gets in my yard by the house.
I swear my friend must have let him in the house and this is all a joke on me. He is like the doritos goats.
The 2 new ones are five months old and are boer/kiko crosses. brothers that are still intact. I got both for 150 ( i honestly dont know what market price is but this guy lived close to me and I told him I trusted him to sell me healthy goats at a fair price) .. I will need to learn how to band nuts mid week.
Hopefully those 2 will remain content after their big brother goes away. I am currently looking for a butcher. I was going to fatten him up but the poor thing is hardly eating.

LOL Gotta love goats!!!!
So how high is your goat fence? A goat will crawl under jump over push through or even thrash through a fence if it wants to get to feed, grass,or anything that interests them. Goats are very curious and have personalities so you may have a goat that enjoys finding his way out. LOL
I have Nigerian goats so they are small. My full grown buck is about the size of a full grown black lab. I have 5 ft fence and its just high enough. I am currently at war with my goats as they are destroying my fence to get to chicken feed or the other goats. I have my males and females in different pens. When I say destroy they push and push there noses through the opening till the wire weld breaks. Then they do it again and again.
As the dude on Jurassic Park said " they never test the fence in the same place twice. They remember......."
That pretty much sums up goats!!
As far as feeding goes I wouldnt know what fattens them up for eating. I feed mine hay and a grain called Caprine challenger? Its a molasses grain. I dont have mine for eating soooooooo. I bet they make a special feed that is for meat goats. Check your local feed store
Oh and your goat might be bored? Do you have anything for it to do in its pen besides just stand around? Goats love to climb and jump around so you my get him to chill if you put stuff for them to play/climb on?
Best of luck to you!!

Oh and as far as winter feeding ....... Again I have small goats. I have bought 80 bails of hay to get me to next may. I go through a little over 1 bail a week . In DEEP winter I will go to two bails and I feed them that grain I mentioned.
So 3 full size goats would be double that I imagine. Or close to it?
