it's nice and I've considered building one. But there is so much space difference inside an a frame vs conventional.

But on the positive side, they look rather easy to build and the materials cost would be considerably less than conventional.

agreed, I like the full height dormer on the end, in my mind, If both those dormers were like that, you could have perfect space for two bedrooms on each end and have a spiral staircase go up to a open cat walk connecting the two ends, like this

yeah, I think sometimes wood can be over done, i like a pine ceiling and drywall walls look
