yeah, I'm with you though, I always check exits and have a straight line of site, we were in Boston at the House of Blues for a concert my daughter wanted to see, the place was packed, I went out to the bathroom, fire alarm went off, I tried getting back to my wife and daughter and was caght up in a wave of people, luckily they made it out the side doors and I found them 20 minutes later

They have something comparable that's flameproof. I hit it with a butane torch for 5 minutes just to see if it was legit and it only melted, very reluctantly. We used it to isolate a noisy ass pump/generator that was temporarily installed in a residential district. Decibels dropped 15 db from 10 feet away on all sides except for the one we left open for ventilation (it faced the ocean/street so no one could really complain). As far as the name goes, the closest English translation would be "acoustical insulation." Should be sold at your local hardware store. If you have drywall on the ceiling just get a paper stapler, open it up and start tacking it in a 24" grid, quick install and barely noticeable when you want your security deposit back. Also it's lightweight and you don't need to worry about getting itchy as hell if you touch it.
I should also note that as you can see it was rather close to our exhaust system (actually touching in one spot) and it hadn't even melted by the time we tore it all down 2 months later (the pump/generator was running every other night for 12 hours).

I don't know if there was any resolution to this thread and my reply may be long past the need, but how about instead of noise insulation, either soft breathable ear plugs, or simply a white noise generator? You can sleep with white noise, and it is very good at muting other noise.
