Garage is almost fully insulated -- still need to put sheathing up. I bought some aluminum venting and an outside vent for removing exhaust from the generator. I need to go cut a hole in the wall of the power shed and get that all hooked up. Progress is being made but slowly. We have decided to hire someone to help put on the lean-to's on either side. Hopefully we can get all of that done before snow hits.

The generator will look more like this.

I am going to buy a bigger version of our Champion brand generator that also has a remote start capability. These are the cheapest/most powerful generators in this price range that can be remotely and electrically started. The big selling point is the electrically controlled choke and the remote start keyfob. My current generator is 3500 watts -- this one is 7200. This will allow me to charge up my larger array of batteries faster than with the smaller generator. Since we are entering winter soon this generator will help keep the batteries topped up.

this may seem like a silly question, sorry if you have gone over it, but why are you insulating? Are you going to have a heat source in it?

Yes, this will have a small propane heater and eventually a small woodstove if I ever think it is worth the effort. This is going to be my workshop and with the lean-to's off the sides we will be able to park next to it.

In the winter I find it hard to work on projects, build things, etc. without a heated space. This can give me that space.

ah that makes sense, what type of batteries do you have? Any concerns for off gassing

Bro, my batteries and solar equipment are out in my powershed by the solar panels. The garage (used to be called barn) is now a freestanding structure without any solar equipment. Insulating it and sheathing the inside will give me a small 12x24 workshop with a roll up door for working on projects, small vehicles, etc. Adding the lean-to's on the long sides will give me covered parking. Win-win. It is taking forever to get the inside done, however.
