Now I am trying to figure out how to actually raise the posts that are spiked with the beam. So I am trying to raise something that looks like this from the ground. The logs are wet and probably weight 200 lbs apiece. This is going to be dicey. I am having a hard time even moving the logs around let alone try to raise all three of them in the air at one time.

Ironically I tore that down so I can use the poles for roof supports. So no going back to it now -- plus I'm not sure if it was big enough to lift the assembled logs to full height.

My plan is to get the logs spiked together on the ground with the base of the poles where I want them to go. I will hammer rebar in the ground to stop the poles from sliding and hook a chain to the top of "ridge beam" log and start pulling. Hopefully that lifts it into the air. I would already have 2x4 bracing nailed to the assembly so that when it is raised it doesn't need my manual labor to keep straight up.

We'll see... I think this will be one of those "hold my beer and watch this" moments.

OK, we got some sections raised but it sucked. I have this designed to be WAY too tall. The front pole is 11' and the back pole is 8'. I don't know what I was thinking. I am going to switch gears and go with 6' in the back and 8' out front. I need to lower the section we just raised and take a chainsaw to it. I will also reinforce the top beam with diagonal bracing. I planned on doing that after we got it upright and it was just too wobbly while raising.

Here is my buddy celebrating.

Fall is here and a baby will be here any day -- I need to get this done.

Good luck, Pork! Try to find some time in between everything you have going on to get some sleep! On the bright side, after the baby's here you wont sleep till the spring anyway so you'll have plenty of time to work :P
