I'm so on the fence about this.  Obviously, there are people that need them.  But the system is well beyond broke.  There's just too much abuse of the system.  Then you have people who treat it as a job.  Want a raise?  Pop out another kid.  It rewards personal IRRESPONSIBILITY.  In addition, it keeps a whole bloc of voters in the democrats' pockets.

Agreed, but in the overall scheme SNAP is a small percentage of the waste our govt has

I know there are a lot of people on various gov't programs...and I don't agree with most of them...my thing is this...I can't understand why people get benefits if they aren't free of drugs...if they can't pass a random drug test they shouldn't get gov't support. Maybe I feel this way because it's tax time and I hate seeing what we pay vs what we get...I feel like I am supporting a bunch of bums.

I'm with you on that, people get drug tested for jobs but getting tested for aid is demeaning and a violation of their rights?

I believe the biggest reason that this isn't done more often is because the end result is that it takes food out of kids' mouths.  While it sucks that you have someone on drugs collecting the benefits, the problem is that it's the children that it's supposed to be helping that pay the price.

I think another issue is what do you do with the people who fail? Cut them off and they turn to a life of crime which depletes LEO, courts and prison systems.

I wish there was a simple answer.

I understand that if people fail then there are implications with LEO and the legal system...and more importantly the thought 'takes food away from children'  I get it.  Certainly no easy answers.  Like so many issues...people are no longer accountable, less alone held accountable.  Sign of the times?

Pretty much it seems. I really wish I could be around to see what happens in the next 200 years.
