and only a 5000 dollar reward?

Utah investigators are offering a $5,000 reward for information about 70 pounds of high explosives that were stolen in Hildale.

The explosives — which detonate faster than the speed of sound, such as dynamite — were stolen from a storage facility in the southern Utah town, said Michael Minichino, special agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The ATF is investigating the theft in conjunction with the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The owner of the explosives had an ATF license for them, and as part of that license, was required to make regular checks on the explosives and keep them in theft-resistant, bullet-resistant and weather-resistant storage. But when he checked on the explosives on Aug. 7, they were gone, and must have been taken sometime in the two to three weeks prior, Minichino said.

If I had to guess I'd say some type of mining compound, I'm curious as to what specifically as well.

Interesting, re the Mormons becoming the next group of radical fundamentalists?

" This isn’t the first time an incident involving explosives near the Short Creek area has drawn the attention of the ATF. Last year in Colorado City, Arizona, a farm truck owned by an ex-member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was destroyed by suspected explosives.

That incident is believed to have occurred around Sept. 20, 2014, and ATF investigators believe the truck was destroyed using commercial explosives, Fox 13 reported.

No one was killed or harmed in that incident, as the truck was being kept in a remote part of the ex-FLDS member’s farm at the time.

The destruction of the pickup truck is also believed by some to be an act of retribution against the ex-FLDS owner of the truck by members of the FLDS church. There have been no major updates in the case since it was initially reported. "
