when my father in law passed away I found 30,000 dollars in a jacket pocket hanging in his closet, my mother in law was donating the clothes to charity the next day, no one had a clue it was there, so make sure you let someone know where it is that you trust.

Wow...you never expect things like that.  Would make me wonder if I missed something.

Yeah, it was a weird situation, they both kept their own finances and neither knew a thing about each others, near the end he was living in the downstairs bedroom due to several reasons, she had asked me to go through his stuff and organize it, find out what bills he had, accounts, etc.

I kept finding handwritten notes, with COH on it and it didn't dawn on me what it was.

I spent 12 hours going through everything so I could go over it with Mom, when she woke up I asked her if there was anything still in their bedroom that was his, she said he still had a nightstand in there. I asked if I could look in it, she said yes.

I found a bank envelope with 5000 in it, then I put two and two together and realized COH was cash on hand, I showed Mom and asked her where Dad liked to hide things, because according to his notes there was 30,000 more somewhere.

She knew exactly where to look, seems he had been hiding money in his jackets in the closet for his whole life.

I remember when I was a kid, there was an old farmer who died...he always told his wife that if anything happened to him that there was a box of money under the manure pile...this was a multi generational farm and that pile was huge and compacted...when he died she talked about how he always joked about this, she laughed it off...Another neighbor didn't discount the story so much, he offered to dig into the pile with his back hoe...they found it!...was full of real silver dollars and even some old gold coins...wow....love stories like that.

I'd be going into it with a pickaxe and shovel if I had to.

...I can't dismiss stuff like that from the old timers.  I have yet to find any kind of money or stash in the barn yet...I just thought for  sure he would hide something...gotta keep looking though.
