I had a 97 Ranger and loved it. The thing wouldnt die. Thats partially why I got the F150 is that my experience with Ford trucks has been pretty good.

I have a 1994 F150. All I had to do was brakes up front, one of the rear shackles and the bracket, and some fluid changes. Ball joints will be needed a change in a year Im thinking. Mine has the inline six.

Anybody know much about the 02' F-150's? I've been on some Ford forums but most of the posters there are fanboys. I'm looking for honest opinions or experiences with them.

Also, any work you guys recommend doing on a used truck? I always run synthetic through my cars but I dont do much else.

you have fluids in the transmission, differentials and transfercase. if it was me i would change it to start new and do it as prescribed after that. That would help all the gears and bearings in there last longer.

I would make sure all tierod ends, ball joints etc. are all nice and nothing is loose in there.

Idk, sometimes when you start changing fluids you can create new problems too. If its not time to change and/or it looks clean, leave it.

^^^^ B17's advice is especially true with transmissions.

For example the advice I get follows the line of:

1) If you think or know the transmission fluid has been changed, then change it, no flush no "treatment", just get it changed pan dropped, filter etc................

2) If you are on high mileage 100k plus etc, and you know and or are pretty sure the transmission fluid has not been changed, leave it ! Do not start monkeying around now.

I am no expert, but taking advice from mechanics and from people (a good source) who have had to keep small fleets of vehicles on the road. The second group buys very used vehicles and runs them for many miles.

I would echo this as well from experience.

Point is ( I may be totally wrong) but at least consider what B17 is saying in his last post.
