does anyone have any on their property? Last I had heard (12 years ago or so). They were working on finding genetically blight resistant trees. These were one of the most dominant tree species in the US. Truely one of the most versatile and valuable trees. I have found some sites that are claiming to sell hybrids. I just dont know how legit they are. chestnut wiki

I know the State University of New York has been working on them, I came across this last year.

K, you're right, I have three chestnut trees on our property.  They are all Chinese hybrid chestnuts.  I have the Eaton Chestnut and two Auburn Homestead chestnuts.

Both are Chinese chestnuts that were developed in the US and purchased from Stark Brothers nursery.

They're all still too small to bear, I planted them last fall and they've grown to be about head height.  The hardest part for me is the extreme deer pressure I have in my area, so they're all in tree tubes to keep them protected until they get above browse height.  I just set them out there and let them be.  I didnt put them in the orchard and they didnt get much irrigation.  They would probably be a little bigger if I paid them more attention, but Im looking for varieties that dont need a lot of care and will do well on their own.  If they do well, I'll save some seeds and plant more.  They look to be doing pretty good so far.

Groin, some of the links thelumberjack shared say 10 years to nut, do you feel that is accurate?
