Yes, pretty good.

I love fruit trees, food for life, pretty and I believe that is why my area/garden has a good bee population due to the flowering of the trees being a sure thing for the bees.

We have one small pear & apple orchard that I put in 15 plus years ago.  We just started a new one closer to the new house...4 pear and 5 apple last year and just got another 4 ordered this year.

I will say, that the classic Felco hand pruners are awesome for pruning and they account for 75% of all I need to do with the trees...A good friend of mine managed apple orchards his whole life and swears by them .  The old guy is 83 and is wealth of knowledge.

I am also a fan of fruit trees. I truly miss the 30-ish fruit and nut trees we had at our last place but they didn't 'pack' when we moved Cry. Our place here was not very good for garden location and even less friendly to fruit trees. We finally figured out a way to 'carve' spots for them on our hillside so we again have a few to look forward getting fruit from.

I prune as much for shape as I do for maintaining a structure that allows fruiting and access to pick it! Plus each tree has its own fence/cage around it due to deer. All this just so we can eat TASTY fruit instead of the quasi fruit one is offered at markets. Yes there are a few you-pick orchards not far from us, but these being in another state (we live near state line), bringing fruit from those to our home is a 'regulated' thing not to mention transportation concerns (ripe fruit bruising).

So it really is best to grow one's own! And maintaining a tree isn't really all that much effort either.

My personal motto - The Home, a peace worth fighting for.

I want to add some paw paw this year and then I should be all set with trees, we have a pretty wide variety now, cherry, plums, 3 different apples, pears, nectarine and crab

GK, Here is a link to St Lawrence Nurseries in Potsdam NY...they specialize in cold hardy & heirloom varieties of fruit trees.

Quality stock...plus they are family owned...I am a fan of supporting any family Ag that I can.
