I love my cast iron cook ware...I have found the less you mess with it the better...for the most part: grease, wipe it out, gently soak it in warm water if it's horribly dirty and gently wash with a cloth then rinse, then grease it up right away (only had to clean this way a couple of times though)

Love the old Wagner and Griswold iron.

I haven't had that great of luck with cast iron.  Also, (yes I'm lazy) I hate the amount of care that it requires.

On a side note, I was reading an article recently, and they had a great point (paraphrasing) Cast iron, while non-stick, will never be as non-stick as Teflon.  After all, Teflon is so nonstick, that they had to invent a special process just to get it to bond to the pan.

ET,  I agree about Teflon, can't beat it.  The thing I learned about my cast iron is that I really need to get it warmed up pretty well before I cook with it, keep it greased, and don't clean it harshly.

Besides a Cast Iron frying pan is an awesome home defense weapon in a pinch.

I have a nice cast iron dutch oven.  Know how I care for it??  I line it with tin foil before I use it.  (I told you I was lazy, weren't you listening??)

I have three cast iron frying pans and a ceramic lined cast iron dutch oven.  I love them all, but the amount of paper towels I go through cleaning them is absurd.  We go through rolls and rolls and rolls.
