So we started out yesterday morning where I had left off Saturday night

this is why we have issues with drainage, heavy, wet gray clay, it makes digging holes a pain as well

instead of going straight back, we decided to curve around our big pine, that way the cows can clear it out and use it for shade

we then straightened it out and brought it directly across the field

and got to the point where the old t-post fencing was

I had to move the cows so we could cut through the fence, first, disconnect the electric fence charger

they weren't quite sure, the new fencing on the driveway makes a pretty good holding area

but they quickly got to work

we disconnected the electric and moved some temporary stakes just in case we didn't get it finished, we actually cut off a decent size chunk of the old area, think I'm going to plant a patch of corn there

so we cut out the old fence

and ran the posts across the old pasture

we threw in a corner post to make our turn

time to aim for the left corner of the barn, wasn't sure if we were going to make it

we put in a 8 foot gate so we can bring equipment into the field if we need to

we cut out the old fence for the crossing

and finished up just as it got dark, we left the electric up in a small area until we get the old fence removed and figure out how we are going to wire fence it, I think if we just put electric, the cows will be fine, but I kind of like the second layer of security if the pigs get out

so today we are taking down the old fence and extending the pig pen back another 32 feet to give them more room

Man, that is a lot of fencing action. I thought of you when I saw that some corporate retreat center out here has something like 2 miles of cedar post fencing, like yours, lining their property facing a road. I can't imagine the time and expense that went into it -- it traverses many types of terrain, creeks, etc.

so we started yesterday tearing down the electric fence

and removed all the old t=posts and wire fencing, still need to remove the section in the back outside the cedar

we decided to tackle the pig pen extension, they were calling for severe thunder showers and I wanted the posts in before the rain hit

we decided to go four rails, which will give them another 32 feet to play in

and two across, the same as the old pen, which will give them a 16x56 pen to romp in, which is plenty big

dad decided to take a break and chilled with the cows for a little while

this set up gives the cows a 16 foot area behind the pens to get into the larger portion of the field

we continued wrapping around the far side and used 2x4's to connect the old to the new

we finished up just as the rain was starting to hit

so we waited it out until the lightning died down and the rain lightened up, we only had two more posts to put in, we decided at this time to hold off on wire fencing the new cedar and just running electric on it, but I wanted a way to be able to let the pigs out and run them up the side of the barn, so we ran two sections from the corner of the barn, set them in cement and today we are going to install a gate across that to the old pig pen

so tofay we have to wire fence the pigs addition, put boards along the bottom to keep them from rutting under, run electric, then I'll cut out the end of the old pen and let them explore, we need to get electric up on the cedar as well for the cows, I might still go price out some wire fencing, it would be nice to have as a second layer of protection in case the pigs get out of their pen some how
