Good stuff kvr. I still drive by my great granddad's old place every now and then and it always brings back the memories of being there when I was a kid. My great granddad's house was a cinder block house too, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, but it always felt like there was plenty of room. He used to raise chickens, had a few horses, and planted corn fields around the property. Plenty of afternoons were spent having dirt clod fights in the fields, chopping wood, picking blackberries, hunting snakes, staying away from the meanest hens I've ever seen, and exploring the creek that bordered his property. In true old timey fashion, we used to walk to his house after school (of course he only lived about a mile from the school). Good times my friend, good times.

thanks gg, it brought back a lot of memories just sitting there looking around, I wanted to go up and knock on the door and ask if I could come in so bad, I think my brother actually did about 10 years ago

I've thought about approaching my great aunt, who still lives near the old place and I think has control of the property, about letting me tear down either the old barn or one of the smaller sheds before they rot away and use some of the reclaimed wood to build my chicken coop. That way I would still have a piece of the old place close to me.

my brother is going to contact the new owners and see if we can dismantle the corn crib and move it up here, I'll keep you posted, that will be a interesting journey if it happens
