Dunno if you've considered moving further West, but there's some pretty cool places in OR

Sprague River is surrounded on 3 sides by national forest, and has a reasonable sized city which I'm sure has a decent amount of job opportunities. Land is pretty affordable at around 2-3 thousand an acre.

Plus it's beautiful up there.

Looks awesome, especially with the lake access. Just an FYI -- that is probably extremely remote. While building my house up north I encountered trouble finding contractors, getting materials delivered, utilities, etc. The small things added up... like getting propane delivered (I had to tank my smaller tanks and get them filled), getting materials delivered cost a lot due to the distance, and driving to the hardware store became a half day adventure.

Not trying to dissuade you but trying to paint a picture of what it may look like. If you like solitude it looks amazing.
