With your short time frame I would recommend hand trenching it. The subsoiler would help (dependent on your soil type) but it only goes down ~18" or so. You could use the subsoiler to start the trench and hand finish it -- not sure if that interests you or not.

We have about 8-12 inches of topsoil then it's all clay, we have to be down 18 inches according to code. Even though they are switching out the meter and feed tomorrow there is no rush to hook up the feed to the workshop, that can be done at anytime. I'll probably just hand dig it though, don't know if I can justify the 179 dollars for something I would rarely use.

In that case, I would dig down with the bucket and 'peel back' the top soil. I've done this a few times to make a cut in some ground that needed to drain. Put the buckets bottom edge on the ground, lift the front end of the tractor up off the ground, and wiggle the bucket back and forth slightly so it digs a down deep into the soil. Then curl the bucket and it will lift out a straight piece of grass dirt that is straight. You can keep doing that for the length of your wire run. Does that make sense?

Good. You can keep repeating in the same spot to dig down even deeper. Then when you get the wire run you can pull back the dirt (if you had it all on one side of the trench) with the bucket and make it easier to backfill.

think I'm going to go pick up the subsoiler this morning, not enough space between the rock wall and the trees to maneuver to well

I haven't used it yet. My tree spade doesn't fit the QH standard and is hard to attach. I am spoiled now.
