So I think I figured out what happened, When I had changed to front fuel filter the local auto store only had an aftermarket metal one, not the clear plastic stock one, not sure what the difference is but that seems to be the one that had frozen up the worst.

The last time I had filled it with diesel was probably three months ago, hadn't been using it much in that time frame so I assume it was still summer blend, when I was running it the other day it was in the 40's so it wasn't an issue, well the last couple days have been in the teens and twenties.

When I filled it and started it, it was just sucking in the diesel from the line.

Another thing I noticed was when I drove by the gas station yesterday they had an out of order flag on their diesel tank, so that means they were either out or their lines had frozen as well, if out then who knows what kind of crap diesel we sucked out of the bottom, the same if their lines were frozen.

So we took a propane torpedo heater and blew it onto both filters for about 10 minutes and got it started up, we added diesel 911 and power service to the tank and it seemed to have worked everything through okay, I ran it for about 5 hours last night clearing out the drive to the barn and my neighbors driveway since he was working late.

It was bitter cold again last night so I am going to fire it up this morning to see if the additives have done their job.

K, I think you will be in good shape with the additives.  Do you have a block heater on your tractor?

No, but they do offer it as an add on, I will give the dealer a call today and see if they have them in stock.

The block heater won't stop the fuel filter's from Icing up, but they do make cold weather starts easier and save the battery.  I plug mine in about 30 minutes before I want to start it up...works like a charm when it's cold and crappy.

My fuel filter and sediment bowl have a small drain valve on the bottom of each, I crack them open so they drip just a bit and drain out the bottom...I do this for 5-10 minutes before I start it up...this practice and the diesel additive help out a lot.
