What type of ammo should I stock up on for my .45? I'm looking for a good self defense round, not plinking ammo. Right now I'm leaning towards getting some Federal HST 230 Grain. I'm open to any suggestions though.

I bounce between golden sabres and speer gold dots in my 9mm and .40 cal. I've got a ruger p97 .45 with some old hydroshocks loaded in it in the safe.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I might just get a few different kinds and see which I like best. I could use the practice anyways.

oh and for reloaders you can order the hornady critical defense to reload your own, I'm not sure about the speer and the others

Any high dollar defense specific round will do. However, I personally use Winchester Ranger SXT (formally Black Talon) in all my Defensive Carry Pistols.
