I have always wanted acreage. I grew up in an area where a lot of my friends had property and I have always wanted to bring my kids up in that situation.

My wife and I looked at a few places on a whim about a month or so ago and found the place we're buying now. We love where we are. I can't say there's really a demand for change more of a desire.

She is in environmental work and I own a Renewable company so "sustainability" is something we both innately agree with and is a small percentage of our plan/goal.

Ultimately our goal is just to make a beautiful quiet place we can raise our family and enjoy the quiet and solitude together. We may do a garden and some chickens. The kids obviously want a horse but we're not sold on that idea. A few years down the line and we may very well but right now there is too much else to worry about.

I came here for answers so I have no problem letting you know "where" we are.

if you are hosting the pics somewhere, just click the little picture to the right hand side of the link and it will put the image tags in your post and just paste the link in between, or click the submit button and you can upload 3 pics at a time from your pc

9446010251_013bb0de8d_c.jpg

also you can subscribe to threads, anytime someone posts you will get a e-mail, just be careful and don't subscribe to the whole forum or you'll be getting e-mails every time someone makes a post. You can see your subscriptions under the edit forum options link above right under where it says welcome newman, if you want to unsubscribe from a thread, just click the thread link and where it said subscribe on the top and bottom it will say unsubscribe now.

What is your motivation for making this big lifestyle change? Sorry for asking so many questions, just trying to get a feel for what your goals are.

Here are a couple of blog posts I made that might give you some ideas

http://thehomesteadi.....homestead/

http://thehomesteadi.....fficiency/

Do you have a place you recommend hosting?

Also just read both articles. Great stuff and EXACTLY why I came here.

BTW I forgot to mention before as to the "why" question.

Hunter S. Thompson once said if you can't blow something up while naked from your back porch your not home. :D

I think it was him, it would make sense if it was but either way I always smiled at the concept behind it.

thank-you

imgur, photobucket or flickr, if you have a yahoo account, then you already have a flickr account, it's what I use, I'm not a fan of the changes yahoo has made to it though, since they bought tumblr, it's almost like they are trying to make flickr into tumblr

A little update. We couldn't come to terms with the home owners so we walked away. However we have found a 20 acre property that everyone one loved. We made an offer and came to terms. Just had the inspection on the home and septic. Just waiting to sell our current home now!
