HI!

Im MelBelle and I live in a 14x20 two story offgrid barn in eastern NC.

I went off about a year ago... I owe a lot to forums like these, youtube, google, and Amazon.com. Before I just peeked in as a guest (somewhat fearing that big bro would scan these sites) .. but I am ready to dig in and become a part of something.

I use a Natures Head composting toilet, a small solar array, rain water harvesting, woodstove, on demand propane water heater, unplugged chest freezer as an ice box, a gas generator for work/construction, and lots of cute little solar and battery powered trinkets. Horses, goats, one goose who thinks its a goat, chickens, cats and dogs keep me company. ((Bees and the garden are the goals for 2014))

Sometimes it feels more like an adventure of "what not to do" and my family thinks I've totally lost my mind... but its worth a few odd stares at Christmas time.

But, I lived the grid life (not to be confused with the good life) for my first 28 years and I just couldn't take it anymore. So, I sold my big house and moved a few hours south, to a town with one stop light... and set up a barn on the edge of the woods... and here I am.

Im just looking forward to being around like minded people... sharing what Ive learned.. and being encouraged in those moments when everything breaks down all at once.
