In the first half of 2013 I bought some undeveloped land. I hope to break ground March or April of 2014. I decided it would be a good idea to join some forums to discuss things and to start a blog to begin documenting my research and experiences as I go.

Buying the land was the culmination of about one and a half years worth of reading and watching videos on a variety of subjects applicable to homesteading.

I became fascinated by earthen building techniques in particular. I most especially like Earthbag aka Super Adobe. My long term goal is to build an earth sheltered Earthbag home into the side of a hill on the property. It will be very labor intensive and take a very long time to do.

My more immediate plan is just to get myself onto the property.

I have an undeveloped 7.5 wooded acres. There are 2 hills each with a plateau, and a valley with a seasonal runoff stream. There are no utilities connected. Only electric will be available. There is no well, and no aquifer below.

My plan is to build towards the rear of the property where I can enjoy the most privacy. That will require about an 800 foot winding driveway. I will need to clear trees and rock the entire way. I will also need to build a land bridge with a large culvert to cross the seasonal runoff stream.

Looking forward to seeing the progress. When do you plan on getting started?

Started on which part? Breaking ground or on my long term plan of an earth sheltered earthbag house?

Just breaking ground in general or a layout of where you plan on building. Have you checked out KVR earth shelter home thread, it's amazing!!!

Yes, I read his entire earth sheltered house article, some of the related thread, and also his entire earthbag barn article.

The first thing I did on taking possession was enhance the property line markings from my surveyor. Then I went around posting No Trespassing signs.

I hope to break ground March or April of 2014. I have already run string to mark the center line of the driveway and the perimeter of the building site. I also tied off a bunch of marking ribbon to enhance it.

I still need to mark the outer bounds of the driveway clearing and make things clear as possible defining what gets cleared.

I don't want to clear any more than what I must. I like all the tree cover.

Greetings, small world.  I am off the Bingham exit on 10 acres.  When you start building the bermed house I would love to visit and see the progress.  I think in 2-3 years I will do mine.
