Hi guys & especially KVR!
I was actually one of the first on these boards, but haven't been on in a while. KVR has been an inspiration for a long time, and actually posed questions that helped me re-prioritize a bunch of stuff in life. It's been a while since I contributed (keyhole garden & whole hog roasting being my biggest contributions.) THSB, you guys & KVR actually helped me lay out a path that led me to transition away from a life tied to the corporation. This site was part of that brainstorming process that led to greater freedom.
I didn't go all-out with homesteading per-se, but I did make a huge choice to walk away from an long career and executive type job, start my own business, and take a grasp at forging my own future. No more TPS reports, corporate politics or working with people you "got stuck with." The business seems to be going well. I have paying clients (consulting) and am finally starting to see some light financially (profits are good.)
The reduction in stress and stupid B.S. tied to working for a large company has been the best thing for my health, my family and happiness. The projects I'm working on have an altruistic component. Soon, I'll have more free time and property to begin tinkering with homesteading (ish) projects again. My garden went a little feral this summer, but nothing a little extra elbow grease can't fix. Hopefully next year, my wife and I will buy a new property with the room we need to do more than a veggie garden.
Great work KVR in keeping this community going. I'm glad you are here a year later.
And yes, I still wear my Keep Calm, Start a Garden T-shirt all of the time.

Market research and indigenous polling in frontier countries. Basically we hire & train local people all over the world to perform polls, compile the results and do some analytics with the data. Where I live, it seems to be a pretty good niche, and we're getting opportunities with some big NGO's and government projects. It's no .com moneymaker, but it's fulfilling work, and helping to find the truth about an issue instead of relying on the media is pretty fascinating and satisfying.

Would you be interested in coming to WV and start some polling about fracking? The Company sales pitch is overwhelming!
