Welcome aboard Chance!!  When I was your age, I wasn't much on school, but I did graduate.  Looking back on it, it was one of the best times of my life, and wish I had it to do over again so I could make the most of it.  And a HUGE regret I have is not going to college.  In this day and age, I strongly RECOMMEND you graduate.  Many places want a college degree and hiring a drop-out is out of the question.  Being a drop out, it's going incredibly hard to make a decent life for yourself.  Others have done it, but they are the exception to the rule and were raised in a different time.  You have 2-3 years left.  It's light at the end of the tunnel.  Make the most of it, and you'll be done before you know it.

High school sucked for me.

High School was great for me. I was one of the most popular people in school. Grew up like fast times at ridgemont high basically. we have high school reunions and cant wait to see my friends again.

times are different now than when I grew up. Glad I grew up when I did.

Chance, why would you choose to quit?

I do thank everyone for their opinions, but I am going to stick to my plan!  I do however, homeschool myself at the library over in Hayden!  But, I do thank you guys! :)

What do you plan to do when you quit school?

are your parents behind you in your decision?

Hello again guys!  It's been awhile, but I'd like to update yall on my life.  I am now in 11th grade, and have no rush to get out of school.  I've decided to wait until I'm 25 or so, and have saved up all the money I need to move out to Montana instead of back up to Alaska.  I currently live in CDA Idaho, and now have a job at Subway.  I save up my money, but it gets hard at times because I'm an Archivist.  That's it, just wanted to update yall!

Glad you've reconsidered your previous decision.  As much as you may dislike it now, very few people (if any) say, "You know what my one regret in life is??  Getting my high school diploma"

If not college, there's also trade schools. Less debt, some (like long haul trucking) will send you for free and you must work it off locked into a contract. And depending on the trade, you could have papers in as short as a few months to 2 or so years. Trades can be lucrative, but can also be physically demanding and draining. The older you get, the more things ail you. Not good if your livelihood is physically demanding. You can run a search on the forums here about Mike Rowe (think Dirty Jobs TV show) and you can look for his ted talks or interviews on the higher cost of college.

As KVR has previously posted, if the expense of college is the major concern, look into college in Germany where it can be free or close to free. You'd still have living expenses, and figuring out VISAs, passports, etc. Never mind that you should expect they'll speak German heh.

You said you're a prepper and want to homestead. Prepping is simply put, a money pit. Collecting all your paraphernalia will cost a fortune. That means you'll need the income to back it up. Same can go for homesteading. If you're wanting to own land, do farming on any scale large or small, or wanting to go off-grid, ALL require seed money. The way you get that money in today's world makes having some kind of formal higher education and/or trade nearly a necessity. Take it from us old farts. We've been there, done that, and are giving you the benefit of what we've learned through experience... sometimes the hard way.

Last, you said its hard to save money because you are an archivist. WHAT do you archive? (And why is it such an expense?)
