Farm. We are already paying to feed and clothe them.

Crony capitalism sucks don't it. That's what happens when you let the government run rampant through the market. Yes. That's right. We haven't had a free market in the United States for more than a hundred years.

But I can see that you don't want an actual debate. You would rather throw up statistics and hope it leads people to your way of thinking instead of actually discussing and debating the cause and the solution. Hint. The solution is not more government.

Came across this article yesterday, Taiwanese companies replaced 60,000 workers with robots, maybe wall-e really was a documentary

Thirty-five Taiwanese companies, including Apple’s supplier Foxconn, spent a total of 4 billion yuan (HK$4.74 billion) on artificial intelligence last year, according to the Kunshan government’s publicity department.

“The Foxconn factory has reduced its employee strength from 110,000 to 50,000, thanks to the introduction of robots. It has tasted success in reduction of labour costs,” said the department’s head Xu Yulian.

“More companies are likely to follow suit.”

As many as 600 major companies in Kunshan have similar plans, according to a government survey.

KVR, the wave of the future is robots to take peoples jobs, no doubt.

CJ, the statistics I posted are also known as facts. You can debate opinions all you like. But you cant debate the facts. The facts clearly show that there is a very real problem with people being able to earn a decent living in this country.

The facts also show that people have next to zero in savings. That full time jobs have have shrunk in favor of part time jobs. High paying jobs have been lost and people have been taking lower paying jobs, to feed their family.

The facts also show, that combined with the average American earning less, that housing costs and general costs of living have increased. Basic economics understanding will show you that is a recipe for disaster.

So if you think we are paying a lot to house, feed and clothe the poor now, you aint seen nothin' yet.

That's the thing most people fail to realize though. Just because there are facts does not mean that they always used to draw the correct conclusion. Remember the whole thing from the global warming debate.

Coorilation does not equal causeation.

Here's an interesting fact since that's what we're posting now. Since 1933, the year FDR took us completely off of the gold standard, the value of our dollar has dropped a staggering 1700%. If the value would have remained static (obviously there would have been some fluctuations, but not a steady 1700% drop off), the $8.00 an hour minimum wage would be worth around $120 per hour in today's money.

The point is, the number you attach to a wage is irrelevant when your currency has been manipulated and devalued the way it has been. If it was relevant, why not raise the minimum wage to $50? I could use a raise. (this is an actual question I would like someone to answer please)

It's the same reason that foreign aid would be irrelevant if simply raising wages would have no negative effect on the economy. Why give money to other countries when they could simply raise their wages.

Once again, government is the culprit, not the solution.

Well also, lets not forget that in the 40's-50's that a family of four could do well on a single income.  Now that same family requires two incomes to do the same or less.

I'd point to the devaluation of the currency, once again. You can't do that without fiat currency, which requires a central bank to manipulate it, and a government to authorize that bank. If you really want to see this problem solved, look no further than the money its self.

DC just passed 15 dollars as well

WASHINGTON — The D.C. Council on Tuesday approved a $15-an-hour minimum wage bill.

Mayor Muriel Bowser has promised to sign the measure, which will raise the wage by 2020. In a ceremonial news conference, the mayor and council announced they have come to an agreement on a $15 wage. The council formally voted on the bill Tuesday afternoon.

Minimum wage workers in the District currently make $10.50. That rate will increase to $11.50 in July under legislation signed in 2014 by Bowser’s predecessor, Vincent Gray.

“In addition we’ll have a tipped minimum wage that will increase to $5 in 2020. And thereafter, it will increase in pursuant to the Consumer Price Index,” said at-large Council member Vincent Orange before the vote.
