A few more good online kayak stores:

and a shameless plug for a couple of local guys, the first is where I bought my Jackson Coosa from, and the second is a friend who is starting his business and should be up and running late spring/early summer.

Tracking to me has been overrated. Im in the water and letting the current take me along the shore for the most part. When I need to move I have no issues keeping it straight.

It's a trade off. I prefer a better tracking boat on lakes and salt because they are more efficient paddling wise to get from point A to point B. I like a little less tracking on the rivers, since we do have some class III and IV rapids around here and it's better to have a more maneuverable boat to hit the chutes at the best angles.

I love my Trident, but due to the length and tracking I prefer my Coosa for most of my river work.

Tracking is very important when dealing with the wind on bigger water.

On a small river you want some rocker so you can steer easy. Look at the bottom of a whitewater kayak - it's profile is more bowl shaped. A hard tracking boat will have little to no rocker at all - helping you keep a straight line.

Also the hulls cross section is very important. More rounded will be the most seaworthy - as in waves and whatnot. But this will feel tippy to newcomers - good initial and secondary stability. A flat bottom hull - rock solid primary stability and 0 secondary stability. Once you reach a point you are capsized,

As far as efficiency, a flat bottomed hull will always be the hardest to paddle, then V, and finally rounded.

As far as speed, the longer the boat the faster it can go. The cross section of the hull, length, and width will determine the engine required (ie muscle power and stamina) to get it to top speed.

Here are some pics from my last camp out/fishing excursion.

Doesn't look like much, but these things can be a killer, literally. A guy got killed here last year trying to run it in water not much higher than what it is in this picture.

No fish pics from me... I didn't think the few rock bass I caught would warrant a picture until I didn't hook up with any smallies.

Nice pics. Low head dams kill a lot of people and they really should be removed since 99% of them serve no purpose anymore.
