I was thinking about getting a kayak for fishing. I live in Central Florida so I would like to get one for fresh and salt water. Anything I should look for so I dont make a rookie mistake? Im 6 foot and 190lbs if that helps. Plus I would need some extra room for beer.

There is a kayak called the Ocean Kayak Prowler. Its supposed to be the one of the best.

That looks pretty nice. I should have mentioned I was looking to spend around 500 bucks too.

There are a few different boats in the OK prowler series. The Big Game is a nice boat, but it is a tank. Not that good if you are planning on making long paddles. I would suggest either the prowler trident series (I have the trident 13) or a malibu stealth; Jackson came out with a boat this year called the cuda that seems to be getting good reviews too. The biggest piece of advice I can give is if at all possible, try as many kayaks as you can before you buy. You won't find one that excels in all situations, but try to find one that fits you the best and then you can adapt it to whatever your needs are. Salt and fresh are somewhat of a tradeoff. I prefer a shorter, more nimble boat for river fishing, but a longer, better tracking boat for salt water.
