Here is a simple DIY magnetic knife rack that you can make for not a lot of money and looks pretty darn good to boot. I came across it earlier today on imgur and followed the source to a thread on Reddit.
The knife rack was built by Reddit user Slabmir and he listed his material costs as follows.
- wood – $25
- magnets – $30
- forstner bit – $10
[quote_box_center]So in total about 65$, although I wouldn’t need to buy another bit next time. It took me about 3 hours to make.[/quote_box_center]
A couple of points, he says he is in Ottawa, so I am assuming the prices are in Canadian dollars and the materials should be cheaper here in the US.
- Wood could be found for cheaper with some searching. Craigslist is a great source of scrap hardwood, sometimes for free.
- I found the bit for cheaper on amazon.
- He said that he used more magnets than expected, I counted forty-one holes. I found these magnets on amazon which would cost just over twenty-two dollars for the magnets.
- This would be a great product for an etsy store!
