Id like to go off grid eventually and the land I have been looking at has no access to Power, mainly because im only shopping in areas with no zoning regulations so I can build, and do what I want.

My question is to run a whole house of 6 people. How big and how high a price would I pay for a solar system that wouldn't drastically change my wifes life? by this I mean she needs a dryer and a stove besides the wood cook stove I plan to install. (pioneer princess)

Im mainly just trying to get my budget together right now.

Looks like I may be able to get a nice 5.5 acre piece of land with a tractor and a barn for around 22k and im hoping to build the house myself for under 25K theres a natural spring on the property that I can use for water so the last big expenditure is power which is something I have very little clue about.

Thanks in advance, all comments are appreciated!

What is your current household usage? Are you currently using electric for stove, dryer and hot water?

If you wanted to replace what you currently use you would need roughly a 18 kw to 20 kw system which is going to be expensive

Here an example of a 15.4 kw kit

With that being said, you can greatly downsize by converting to propane for your high energy use items, H20, Dryer, Stove and building your own system. Here is the system that @porkchopsmmm built for his family of 5. Hopefully pork sees this and he will have some good suggestions, I consider him our solar guru.

Led lights are a huge energy saver, I did a test in my business over the past year by switching our halogen track lighting to led

FH, let me know what questions you have and I can help out. The way I explain it to people is it will be a lot more expensive than you want it to be but once you have it set up and working you will be happy with a more robust set up.

K... we were a family of six there before we left!
