Our 7 ducks are going crazy mating, it's gotten so bad the wild ducks are staying away, if a female lands all 4 males gang up on here, if a male lands they all attack him.

One female has been disappearing, looked all over couldn't find her till the other day my wife says she saw her go under the gazebo.

Last night I was watching her walking through the yard, she totally bypassed the gazebo and started heading towards the barn. She went behind the hay feeder that is sitting in the yard and disappeared.

So I walked around the feeder and sure enough.

I really want to peak under there and see if she has eggs but don't want to disturb her.

I'm hoping the other two don't start laying, I don't know what I am going to do with 30 baby ducks running around

Ducks are fantastic!

They are great in the vegetable gardens and ponds.  They eat up slugs and snails!

The Taiwanese now regularly release ducks into the Padi fields.  They don't eat crops, only the pests, and their padding in the water aerates the ponds and encourage the plant growth.  And their droppings serves as fertilizers.  Even the Australians are into ducks.  There is one vineyard which releases the ducks twice a day, for them to clear up the vineyards and its a regular show nowadays.

Besides Roasted Ducks, the eggs are collected to make salted eggs.  Those egg yolks are priced highly, for Rice Meat Dumplings wrapped in Banana leaves as well as in Chinese Moon Cakes.

Even in Hong Kong, which is famous for the crispy skin roast ducks and goose, Duck egg whites are used to coat fishing nets which entices fishes into the nets easily.  The egg yolks are collected, sun and dried and added into soups and stirfried into sauces.

As it is, Singapore, being a ultra small island city country.  Is now heavily into food crazes like Salted Egg Yolk Stir Fried Prawns, and even Salted Egg Yolk Croissants!  The Salted Egg Yolk Crabs is also starting to replace the Chilli Crabs we are famous for.
