Haha my wife says that I was born an old man so I'm right there with you.
Tough talking to the inspector. Half of me wants to just say, "The city already approved this" whenever he says that there's no proof that we're staying within our property line. That and, "we could use a measuring tape?" I'm still struggling with the fact that he reads 11.9' as 11' 9".

So I plugged the pipe on both sides and filled it with water. Had one of the plugs blow last night so I'm hoping that doesn't happen again. The inspector is going out without me there so I'm hoping I don't need to "talk him into it" again. Should be a go/no go thing.
Also set up tarps over the work area so that I can finish the beam trench, back-fill with paver base, and tamp. Friend is coming in this weekend so I'm hoping that we can get the rebar set and pour next weekend.
I'm still somewhat nervous about the curb and considering pouring it second or scrapping it altogether because it increases the complexity quite a bit.
Stole these from a local construction site, wanted to see how they poured the garage curb.

So here's how it's been sitting for the last week with intermittent rains. Pick axing through limestone is slow going. Almost to 36" uniformly. Should be done with trenching tonight and then I can start the rebar.
Learned a new cad program so I'm doing some practice. This curb still has me somewhat nervous because I've never done one before but I modeled it up and it definitely seems do-able. I've added an upper guide so that I can maintain my depth easier. I may put something similar on the house side so that I've got a clear screed guide all around. Overkill? Yes, but OCD can also be beneficial sometimes. No plan survives first implementation.

Alright. Trench is dug (lots of pick-axing and Texas Toothpick action there), steel is in (a few deep gashes, nothing major), and the inspection is scheduled for this afternoon. The one thing that I haven't done is epoxy the sticks into the wall. The holes are drilled but just in case the inspection goes south, I didn't want to be locked in.
I started by building all of the parallel beams outside of the trench and dropping them in for efficiency.
Next, I dropped them in and tied in the vertical legs. Each stirrup took 2 ties to close the loop and 4 ties to attach them to the 1/2" steel. At approximately one minute per tie, you can see where my time went.
How it sat last night at 2AM. At this point I was tired and didn't want to make any mistakes considering I didn't have any extra steel on hand and as can be seen in my previous post on concrete, attaching it to my VW is a pain.
And here we are ready for inspection. You'll note that the curb isn't framed out and where the dog is there's no rebar. These two things will be fixed after the inspection (I plan to tell him that I'm not doing the curb and then framing it this weekend). Got some friends lined up for a pour on Tuesday. I think that we can handle it, I'll just stay off the coffee and do some Yoga that morning so that we don't rush anything. One of my friend's parents is an expert so I'm hoping that we can get him involved; though I may have to pay for their time, it would be worth it to even have their assurance.
