I have a box of the heavy type of plastic freezer bags in the garage and put the small stuff that I will lose in them.

HF has a round metal dish with a good magnet on the bottom...they are very good at sticking to metal and holding metal nuts/parts in one spot...keeps things from flying on the floor (most times)

If I am working outside the barn I really tend to loose things in the grass or gravel...I have a couple of Frisbees that I use as parts holders and that helps a lot.
