Well I have been holding out on you guys. We have been trying out the COMPOSTING toilet http://thehomesteadingboards.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif for a couple of weeks now, and I am sooooo surprised at how GREAT this thing is. NO smell at all. I have been using Cedar sawdust from my sawmill. No bugs. No mess. When I say NO SMELL that is just what I mean. Our regular bathroom is not nearly as smell free as this system is. Emptying the bucket is a snap, and did I mention NO SMELL!!!!! I was expecting this to be a thumbs down from my wife, but she is cheering this thing on . I built one for pennies on the dollar, and there is no water bill to go along with the expense of the bill. Sawdust is FREE. NO WATER BILL. NO MESS. OH yeah (NO SMELL YALL !!!!!!)

New house will be outfitted with this system, but I will come up with a different design. This one works fine but I have some fine tuning to do. We ALL love it and are not ashamed of it at all.

I'm glad to hear it is working out. I'm thinking of trying it. Mine won't be nearly as pretty though.

What kind of a set up do you have for the compost pile?

3 compartments made from Cedar slabs cut on my sawmill. The first cuts from the outside of the log. We chose 3 compartments to allow for different aging stations for different purposes such as mulching around fruit, and nut trees as opposed to anything else.

I would vouch for this system to everyone I know. We are very pleased with the whole thing. It's a smart move...

I'm new to this forum, but wanted to post a really cool episode I saw recently on Peak Moment TV. There is a couple in BC I think that set up a COB house and is using the 'composting method' for their solid waste. It was a neat view of the system in action if you will Laugh
Anyway - here's the link. It's worth the watch for that aspect of their set up if nothing else.

BTW - Cob is pretty cool stuff if you haven't read about it yet this should wet the pallet.

Also I recently completed a old school outhouse for our property in Kentucky. I would be interested in hearing any experiences other have had with this also.

Thanks

JR
