These panels weigh ~50 each. The angle iron is still an option but where I struggle is with the pivot point -- I either need to weld something up or use something else to take all the weight of the panels (~150lbs) plus the frame itself (~50lbs?) with wind load.

In this picture the hinge at the bottom of the triangle is the weak point. There is just a lot of weight there. I also have concerns with using angle iron -- steel rusts and it will be a weak factor or need maintenance in the future -- I'm not looking forward to that.

The panels have an aluminum frame all around that you can easily bolt to. Bolting the panels to whatever I build is the easy part.

How about Al angle, or even treated wood?

How about more uprights to spread the load?

I'm no fabricator, but there has got to be someone here or on another sight that has already solved this problem.

MM -- I think I am going to try and go with aluminum channel and connectors (which is industry standard and relatively easy to configure) but getting everything to hinge correctly is the trouble. I think if I can have someone make me some aluminum or steel hinges I will be good. My idea is to put struts up to prop up the panels for the winter and then just take out the strut for spring/summer/fall.

I agree -- there has GOT to be someone but google image it. There is hardly anything out there for roof tilt mount. You can configure it with tons of money into aluminum strut stuff from Unirac or Ironridge but it is crazy expensive. It is more of a matter of principle that I don't want to assemble a huge aluminum subframe and use tons of connectors when I know it can be done easier.

in my experiance working with angle, trying to make corners that are not square like you are trying to do, I found that cutting one of the end pieces (the "HINGE" side) allows you to create any angle you want.

BAD ART WARNING!!!!!!!!!!

2 minutes on paint, this is the best I could do, I am shame.....

some heavy duty piano hinges would be plenty strong for the panels, is a pole mount system totally off the board?
