I think in 2005 it was optional, getting the word out-so to speak...many masons didn't know about it or do it, so if it was there you could do it that way. In 2008 it was mandatory...but from what I have found it is hit or miss depending on the inspector. There are a few ways to do it per code. Like I said, my inspector was pretty adamant about it...really the only thing he stressed.

...well...I never thought of this...I can't do an Ufer ground. You know why?
My electrician buddy checked on this. Can't do it because my whole footing/house is wrapped in foam...no ground contact...no grounding. Didn't see that coming. LOL. Got a call in to the electrical inspector to see if I can do the two grounding rods and loop, or do a ground to rebar grid under the ground floor (not planning on insulation there). See what he says, I think I will be okay with the two grounding rods.
...never thought about the foam being an insulator, makes sense though.

Here we have the Codes Officer he is mainly about structure. Separately we have Electrical Inspectors.
I talked with the Electrical Inspector today. I told him my situation, he was very easy going about it. "Okay, just do two grounding rods 6ft apart with a ground loop. I am thrilled with this.
NEC does state I have to use Arc Fault breakers in all rooms, that sucks, they are about $60 for a 20amp, no way around it. Also have to use safety outlets now, they are like $3 each. Oh well.
He did ask me about the house and gave me a few suggestions on the entrance service, that should save us about $600. Good guy...doesn't hurt that he works with my neighbor a lot...this is a real gift.

I talked to him about the Arc Faults...no way around them. He did say they have gotten a lot better in the last 5 years...sorry. I want to check on the code again about GFI's needing to be on a n Arc Fault or not, I think they do, but I will up to be sure--that would be stupid--
Tempted to be real gentle with the Arc Faults, then replace them with traditional breakers and take the Arc Faults back...not the right thing to do...
