well can't say they haven't been warning about this for a while, where do we go from here?

The world is on the cusp of a "post-antibiotic era", scientists have warned after finding bacteria resistant to drugs used when all other treatments have failed.

They identified bacteria able to shrug off the drug of last resort - colistin - in patients and livestock in China.

They said that resistance would spread around the world and raised the spectre of untreatable infections.

It is likely resistance emerged after colistin was overused in farm animals.

Bacteria becoming completely resistant to treatment - also known as the antibiotic apocalypse - could plunge medicine back into the dark ages.

I would argue that we are not on 'the cusp' ... we are past that point already ... My wife and I see it on a weekly basis, where antibiotics "don't work" and don't believe it when you hear, "they were too old", "we tried", "they're in a better place"... I am not into conspiracies, but there are a lot of cases where MD's simply don't know why ABx don't work as they are expected to.  It is very serious stuff.

Learn what 'shelter in place' is.

Wow...if that works that is something!...would love to own stock in that.

For many years now there has been talk of how 'we' overuse ABx and that we need to cut back, doesn't seem like we do though.  Plus with world travel being so 'easy' it's not hard to see how things can move from one hemisphere to another in half a day. Plus the planet is way overdue for a pandemic.  All scary stuff.

Oh yeah...good boost for their stock...even if this paint doesn't do what it is supposed to do they will make a fortune. Anything this big that has a potential to 'reduce harm' generally will have a wild demand from the get go which means incredible profit.  I hope it works as planned for health care.

Not trying to hi-jack this thread.  Here is some info ( from the CDC I believe ).

...we are in flu season though:

A pandemic is a global disease outbreak. HIV/AIDS is an example of one of the most destructive global pandemics in history.

Influenza pandemics have occurred more than once.

  • Spanish influenza killed 40-50 million people in 1918.
  • Asian influenza killed 2 million people in 1957.
  • Hong Kong influenza killed 1 million people in 1968.
