...the thing that concerns us is that we know about the flu...it's the more exotic stuff like ebola and things we don't know about yet.

Not trying to hi-jack this thread.  Here is some info ( from the CDC I believe ).

...we are in flu season though:

A pandemic is a global disease outbreak. HIV/AIDS is an example of one of the most destructive global pandemics in history.

Influenza pandemics have occurred more than once.

  • Spanish influenza killed 40-50 million people in 1918.
  • Asian influenza killed 2 million people in 1957.
  • Hong Kong influenza killed 1 million people in 1968.

I have read that the HIV/AIDS 'virus' is a hoax and a grouping of symptoms rather than a single cause agent.

My personal motto - The Home, a peace worth fighting for.

well can't say they haven't been warning about this for a while, where do we go from here?

The world is on the cusp of a "post-antibiotic era", scientists have warned after finding bacteria resistant to drugs used when all other treatments have failed.

They identified bacteria able to shrug off the drug of last resort - colistin - in patients and livestock in China.

They said that resistance would spread around the world and raised the spectre of untreatable infections.

It is likely resistance emerged after colistin was overused in farm animals.

Bacteria becoming completely resistant to treatment - also known as the antibiotic apocalypse - could plunge medicine back into the dark ages.

Bottom line, lot of bad viruses out there...some we know about and some we don't...some we can beat and many we can't.

We are both in healthcare.  AIDS is the real deal...and it has been evolving since the start.

Two best things we can do is to wash our hands (I mean that) and limit our exposure the best we can.

...in my area a growing concern is Lyme Disease, a damn nasty thing.

And a healthy body tends to ward off diseases and pests. The catch there is that the food available (yes even many so-called organic) are not very healthy to begin with so one's body starts off from a weaker place than it could.

This might be of interest to you to expand your view of AIDS -

Lyme disease is of concern to us because we do live in a deer area. Our dogs get a Lyme vaccine each year and tick medication too. Makes me wonder why there isn't a human Lyme vaccine. But with all the concerns about vaccines in general, maybe that's not a bad thing?
