For the last couple of weeks i've been playing with seitan.

Seitan is made out of the wheat protein (gluten) that is hydrated and cooked to make a meat substitute.

It's actually quite good and it's all made of ingredient that you can store in the pantry.

So far i've made blocks of basic seitan. Basically: gluten, nutritional yeast flakes, water, soy sauce &tomato paste that you kneed and simmer in vegetable broth.

I also made black beans and gluten "sausages" that are quite delicious.

cool recipes!

Some vegan friends of mine started talking to me about it.

I like it because it's a cheap meat replacement and you can just keep the ingredients in the pantry and in about an hour you have a block of seitan.

Eww. Gross. Mom used to make us eat this crap when we were kids. I'd rather just eat some veg. Your body really only needs about 10% protein and you can get all that from vegetables.

I still eat meat though.
