I had the same generational skip although i was involved with my gradparents farm and stall at the market. My mom never went to high school because she was the oldest girl and did the housework and child care. When my older ister was born, she had to wash diapers by hand in the green house because that was the only hot water.

So my parents moved us to the suburbs. All I ever wanted was to be a farmer in West Virginia. So here I am! My parents are both gone and I miss them every day. I hope to remain healthy and strong for a long long time. I have way too much to do.

The education system of the US has been exploited and blown up into a giant for-profit industry. College used to be something you could work your way through with part time jobs.
