While I haven't done it personally, I think a Roku box (or similar product) is needed to get the most functionality out of "cutting the cable". There have been several threads on the UG about it over the years.

I've been cable free for close to 8 years now, best decision ever! If you have high speed Internet cable is not needed. You'll be able to get most of what you need online, and the few things you'll miss out on make it not worth the price to keep. There is always netflix and I can point you in the direction of a few goods sites for content.

We cancelled cable when we did the dave Ramsey get out of debt deal ~5 years ago. It is awesome not having cable... or even a TV. You can view practically everything over the internet anyway.

I'm considering it too. With the amount of commercials I have to watch on the few shows I'm interested in, it's seriously getting ridiculous!

I watch maybe 5-8 hours of TV per week. Kids don't even watch TV since they got their Tablets. Wife has a few shows she watches, but really, for the cost it doesn't make it worth it.

I like Prospectors or the Weather Channel. Sweet Genius, Chopped and Cutthroat kitchen on the Food network.

I used to love watching HGTV. But they took out the gardening and they should change the name to HTV. Really sucks because I really enjoy watching shows about gardening. The victory garden was great and also like Paul James the gardener guy.
