I have been following a group of folks called TheUrbanFarmingGuys out of Kansas for several years now. They are a unique group of people that are trying to make a difference globally by focusing locally on a small inner city neighborhood.

One of the things I personally appreciate about them is their attempts at raising their food as locally as possible, with as minimal amount of energy as possible. One of the ways they are doing this is through aquaponics.
They actually also have a wiki page going that has plans for several different setups and includes some knowledge based material as well.
